Happy to announce that I recorded a new episode in my We Love Mix series, and it’s now available for your listening pleasure. The two previous mixes were dedicated to Soul artists Otis Redding and Sharon Jones, so I decided to switch it up and pay homage to the late Jay Dee aka J Dilla.

I would argue he’s the greatest hip hop producer of all time. He mastered a variety of different techniques and musical styles as a producer. His sampling chops and mastery of the MPC were as good as anybody, plus he was able to seamlessly incorporate live instrumentation in his work as well. I could go on and on about his work with Common, Badu, the Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, and the Soulquarians, the creative collective that created the sound that was later dubbed “Neo-Soul”. Or how he has inspired multiple generations of beat makers from the 90’s until now. I could go on and on, but I’ll just let the music speak for itself.
